The Bible is about me. Isn't it?

Ran into a person at a local coffee shop today and had a conversation about the Bible. This person said to me the Bible is a wonderful book place to turn toward in order to learn more and more about their own lives. This person then went on to tell me that their favorite story in the Bible is the parable of the Prodigal Son, because they locate themselves as the younger son. This person really loves the Bible because of how often it really talks about her life in almost personal convictions.

I walked away wondering if this is the dominate way to understand scripture in our context. That is to say is the Bible meant to tell us about humanity or individuals or is the Bible meant to tell us about God? Is it some combination?

I tend to understand the Bible as a slew of stories that tell us about the nature of God. Perhaps this is a fault?
